Matching

Find builders who share your interests

What matching is for

Matching helps builders and founders find people worth talking to beyond the normal feed. It is for higher-intent connections: potential collaborators, people with shared interests, builders in the same groups, or members who understand the kind of work you are doing.

A match is not meant to replace public conversation. It gives two people a clearer signal that they are both open to a more direct connection.

What you can do with matching

Choose to be discoverable

Opt in when you want other builders to find you through matching. You can leave the pool from settings.

Find builders with shared context

Review people through profile cards that show interests, level, membership, and groups you have in common.

Signal interest privately

Show interest without putting pressure on the other person. The connection becomes visible when the interest is mutual.

Start a conversation when it is mutual

When both people are interested, a match can make it easier to open a direct conversation while still respecting privacy settings.

How you can use matching

1

Join the pool

Eligible members can opt in. Matching requires a verified email and the minimum level needed to participate.

2

Review one person at a time

The deck shows builders from the opted-in pool. Shared profile interests and common groups help explain why someone may be relevant.

3

Swipe with intent

A right swipe means you are interested in connecting. A left swipe skips the card and keeps the deck moving.

4

Connect after mutual interest

When both people swipe right, Commune creates a mutual match and notifies both members.

Why matching feels different

Start with builder context

Profiles, interests, levels, and common groups give people more to go on than a cold username.

Keep your signals intentional

Swipes can cost Gold after any free allowance, which keeps matching from becoming mindless attention spam.

Protect your attention

Interest is anonymous until it becomes mutual, so people are not pressured by every one-sided signal.

Open the door to DMs

A mutual match can allow direct conversation when the recipient permits match-based messages.

Good reasons to match

A

You have overlapping work

You are building in a similar area, serving similar users, or solving adjacent problems.

B

You can help each other

There is a clear reason to compare notes, trade feedback, test something, or make an introduction.

C

You share community context

Common groups and shared interests are good signals that the conversation may start with more trust.

The simplest way to think about matching: it helps builders turn shared context into mutual permission to start a more direct conversation.
